  Do Me Right

Noel Charles never had a problem getting a man, but when he fell in love with Luke Austin, a handsome and sexy public relations manager, he fell hard. Then, Luke cheated on him with Bradley Simpson. Noel supposed it served him right, since several months ago he stole Luke in the same way from his then boyfriend, Gerard Tyler, drummer for the R&B group The Kerrys. And like Gerard, Noel decided to drop Luke like a hot potato.

Edward Green barely got his feet into the door at Albertson Entertainment when his new boss Tory informed him that he would be accompanying his new charge Noel Charles to Europe. His main duties were to keep the arrogant singer happy, get him to his appointments on time, and make sure he showed up for his scheduled performances.

Edward never planned to fall in love with someone so snooty, but the green–eyed, red-haired demon just simply took his breath away.

  Chapter One

“Exactly how much trouble is he?” Edward Green asked his old friend and new boss, Tory Albertson.

Tory, a middle-aged black man with an impeccable taste in fashion, sat behind a big mahogany desk. The tailored suit Tory wore probably cost more than all the suits Edward had in his closet. “I wouldn’t say he’s trouble. Spoiled is a better word.”

The two of them had known each other since the day Edward was born. Tory had lived and grown up next door to him in Boston, and then moved to New Orleans to attend college. Since then, he only came back for a visit every now and then. “You mean he’s used to getting his way?”

Tory rocked back in his seat. “Yes. He’s from a rich family.”

“Oh, something like you?” Edward asked.

  “Very funny,” Tory said.

  “You mean he’s a diva.”

“Yes, and a smart one, too. He’s a college graduate, actually has a full-time job as a computer consultant, and he can sing his ass off.”

“Oh, so he’s an intelligent brat. When am I going to meet him?” Someone knocked at the door.

“Right now,” Tory answered. “Come in.”

The door opened, and a young man entered. Edward’s heart skipped a beat. The newcomer was simply stunning, with short red stylish hair, exotic green eyes, and a face with perfect features. The artist in him begged to immortalize the newcomer on canvas or in stone.

“Noel Charles, I’d like you to meet, Mr. Edward Green. He’s going to be your new manager.”

Shock registered on Noel’s face. “What happened to Marshall?”

Marshall White was the man who used to manage the popular rhythm-and-blues singer.

“I got rid of him like you asked me to,” Tory said to Noel. “You know me, I do anything to keep my idols happy.” He paused. “Try not to rub this one the wrong way.”

Edward expected the younger male to defend himself.

“Not my fault he has issues,” Noel said, coming up to him and shaking his hand. “Hi, I’m Noel Charles. Please take care of me.”

Noel’s hand was freakishly soft, but not in a bad way. Edward didn’t want to let go of it. He did so under protest. “You look harmless enough. What did you do to make him leave?”

Noel sat down on the sofa next to him. “Nothing. Why do you assume I did something? Don’t believe everything you hear about me.”

Tory chuckled wickedly. I think the two of you will work well together.”

Noel turned to Edward. “Have you ever managed a singer before?”

The southern accent drove Edward wild. “Yes, but you are my first big-name celebrity in the United States.”

“Well, you’ve come at the right time,” Noel said. “We’re about to go on a tour of Europe, and since I’m a professional, there’s very little you’ll have to do except keep me happy.”

Tory continued to chuckle. Apparently, he found this kid amusing, and there was no doubt he knew something about Noel that he didn’t. Edward couldn’t wait to find out.

Noel ran his gaze over Edward. “You look like you can bench-press a horse.”

Edward flexed a muscle at him. “I’m pretty good at spanking problem singers, too.” Noel scooted away from him.

“I knew you were the right man for the job,” Tory said. “If he steps out of line, you have mine and his father’s permission to turn him over your knee and give him a sound thrashing.”

Noel gasped. “My father knows about this?”

Tory nodded. “Hell yes. It’s partly his fault you turned out this way. Besides he’s very concerned about his youngest son’s future, and wants to make sure you behave yourself on tour.”

  Noel f
rowned at him. “I’m twenty-five years old, not five.”

Edward ran his gaze over him. “I can’t believe you frightened your other manager away. What did you do, threaten to hit him with your Prada bag?”

Noel scowled at him. “No, I threatened to have Tory fire him.”

“I assure you that that won’t work on me,” Edward said arrogantly. “I eat pretty little guys like you for dessert.”

Tory groaned from his seat. “He’s not for dating, Edward. He’s already involved with an idiot. Hey, maybe you can get that one in line, too.”

“His boyfriend is going on the trip with him?” Edward asked.

Noel gasped loudly and glared at Tory. “You told him that I’m dating a guy? I thought we had to keep that confidential.”

  “I didn’t say a word,” Tory said.

“Then how did he find out?”

Edward spoke up for himself. “No, he didn’t have to tell me anything. Expensive suit, manicured nails, beautiful face, barely an Adam’s apple present. Oh yeah, and you’re rocking so much ass your pants are screaming at the seams. I can spot a twink a mile away.”

Noel jetted from his seat and got into Edward’s face. “How dare you call me that?” Noel raised his hand to strike Edward, but Edward caught it in his bigger one.

“You and I are going to get along just fine, Mr. Charles. But the next time you raise this at me, I’m going to break it off.”

“Tory, are you going to let him talk to me like this?” Noel asked.

“Hell yes, Noel. Managers just don’t fall from trees,” Tory said. “Edward is going to be your third one, and he didn’t come cheap.”

Noel backed up as soon as Edward released his hand. He started walking away. Edward checked out his butt. Sweet Jesus, the brat is packing.

“Where are you going?” Tory asked Noel.

“Home. There’s no way I want that creep for a manager.”

“You don’t have a choice. I run this show,” Tory said. “Welcome to the family, Edward. The European tour begins on Monday. You have that long to tame that wildcat.”

“I like a challenge,” Edward said.

“Fuck both of you. I hate arrogant men!” Noel left.

“So what do you think?” Tory asked Edward after he heard Noel slam a door on the way out of the administration office.

“I think I’m in love with him,” Edward said to his old friend.

“Already?” Tory asked. “There definitely must be something in the water around here.”

  * * * *

Damn Neanderthals! Noel pulled out his cell phone and dialed his boyfriend, Luke Austin. Luke’s phone just rang. Luke had dropped him off because Noel’s car was in the shop, and he was supposed to pick him up after his meeting with Tony ended. Noel had expected to be there longer, and he might have been had he not left Tory’s office so abruptly. He tried dialing Luke’s number again. Luke had been on his way to the airport to pick up a client. Maybe he was still fighting traffic or discussing business with whoever it was and couldn’t answer his phone. Darn. Noel had accidently left his house keys at Luke’s apartment, and he couldn’t go home until he got them. Oh well, he supposed he could ride over to Luke’s place and get them since he did have Luke’s door key. He headed to the bus stop.

The lobby doors to Albertson’s Entertainment Agency opened, and Edward Green exited. Noel frowned. Spank me, would he? I don’t think so. Edward walked toward him. Noel checked him out. Edward wasn’t that much older than him, maybe in his early thirties. He had thick dark brown hair and baby blue eyes, and stood a little over six feet tall. There were a lot of muscles under the tailored suit. Noel always dug a guy who looked good in the clothing he wore and took pride in his appearance. And he had some big hands. Noel shuddered, imagining being swatted by one of them. He shook off the fantasy. That’s never going to happen.

  “Do you need a ride?”

Noel recovered from his daydream. Edward Green stood next to him. “No, thank you. The bus will be here shortly.”

Edward stared at him. “You don’t drive?”

“Yes, but my car is in the shop and won’t be ready until tomorrow.”

  “Do you live nearby?”

“Yes, in the French Quarter,” Noel answered, though he didn’t know why. He picked up a hint of a Boston accent in the man’s voice.

“I’m going your way,” Edward said. “You shouldn’t be roaming the streets. What if your fans see you?”

“I’m not headed home,” Noel admitted. “I’m going to see a friend.”

  “Where does he live?”

“Why do you assume it’s a guy? I do have girl friends.”

“I don’t really care where you’re going, Red, or who you’re going to see, but it’s about to rain,” Edward said.

This dude has no sense of humor. What was Tory thinking hiring him as my manager? “I’m going to the Audubon Park area. Do you know it?”

“Yeah,” Edward answered. “It’s near the universities. Come on.”

“I wouldn’t want to put you out,” Noel said.

  “I wouldn’t have offered if I didn’t mind.”

Noel hesitated for a moment and then followed Edward around the corner to the parking lot. “Is that yours?” He gazed down at the sleek blue Tesla. It had a Massachusetts license plate.

“Yes,” Edward answered. He unlocked the doors. They sailed up like wings. “Get in.”

Noel slid into the seat. Edward did the same. The doors lowered, and the seat belt came down across their shoulders as the door closed. Edward started up the car, backed out of the lot, and headed toward Poydras. The next thing he knew, they were on the interstate going west. The car had a pretty smooth ride and probably cost Edward a fortune. “How long have you and Tory been friends?”

“Since we were kids, but he used to hang out with my older brother,” Edward said. “He got me interested in a career in music.”

  “You’re both from Boston?”

“Yes, but I come here every now to visit. He called me out of the blue and offered me the job of being your babysitter.”

“I’m not a baby,” Noel said.

Edward looked over at him and smirked. “How old are you really, Red?”

  “I’ll be twenty-six in September.”

  “September what?”

“The thirteenth,” Noel answered. “And since you’re my new manager, I will expect a present.”

Edward chuckled. “Okay, what would you like?”

  “A red Jaguar,” Noel answered.

Edward chuckled again. “That’s several months away. I guess if I take on a part-time job I might be able to afford it.”

Noel smiled at him. He does have a sense of humor. Edward reached over and turned on the stereo. Bobby Womack’s “If You Think You’re Lonely Now” filtered out of the speakers. Noel sang a verse.

“You do have talent,” Edward said.

“Thanks. You know Tory as well as I do. The man is all about the money. He doesn’t have anyone on the payroll that can’t perform.”

“You’re not old enough to remember this song.”

“Frankie performs it in his act,” Noel said.

  “Frankie?”

“Frankie Kerry. He works for Tory, too.”

  “He’s a singer?”

Noel nodded. “One of the best.”

  “Is he better than you?”

Noel shrugged. “That depends on what we’re singing. We cut a song together on my first CD. It’s nominated for an American Music Award.”

  “Congratulations,” Edward said.

Traffic slowed a bit as they headed to the Audubon exit. Noel gave Edward directions. The car handled like a dream.

“So what do you guys do for fun?” Edward asked.

“What fun? I don’t know about the rest of Tory’s performers, but I go home after rehearsal and work on my other job as a computer consultant.”

“Oh, that’s right. Tory did tell me that you were a geek.”

Noel rolled his eyes at Edward. “Ha, ha, very funny. Do you know anything about computers?”

“I know how to turn one on, does that count?” Edward asked.

  Noel laughed. “No.”

“How do you do your other job when you’re on the road?”

“Via phone,” Noel answered. “Plus I travel with my laptop.”

  “Oh,” Edward said.

“But to answer your questions, I usually go clubbing with Luke in the Quarter.”

  “Luke?”

  “He’s my boyfriend,” Noel said.

  “Is that where we’re heading?”

Noel nodded. “I accidently left the keys to my apartment at his place, and I need to pick them up so I can get inside.”

“Why didn’t you call and have him bring them to you at Tory’s?”

“I tried, but he didn’t answer his phone. He’s supposed to be picking up a client at the airport.” He looked at his watch. “And I’m supposed to be meeting with one at four.”

  “What if he’s not home?”

“I have a key to his place,” Noel answered.

“Oh, you have his keys, but you forgot yours there?”

“Yes. I said I accidently did it. I had to take the keys to my car off the ring so I could give it to the guy at the garage, and Luke was talking to me at the time. I remembered placing the key ring on the armoire and forgot until I left Tory.”

  “Smart,” Edward said sarcastically.

“There’s Luke’s car,” Noel said, pointing to a black BMW at the curb.

Edward parked behind it. “Go get your keys. I’ll wait.”

“You don’t have to. Luke can drop me off.”

“I’m going your way,” Edward said. “Why make the man waste gas?”

Noel unlocked the seat belt. “I won’t be long.” He got out and walked down the sidewalk that led to Luke’s condo. He used the key to enter and nearly tripped over some luggage near the entrance. Those aren’t Luke’s. Noel continued in. He heard music coming from the bedroom. Curiosity got the better of him. Call it a hunch, but he didn’t think that Luke was alone. He tiptoed to the open door. Noel looked inside. Nope, he’s not alone. Luke was naked and screwing someone. Noel leaned in the doorjamb and cleared his throat loudly, stopping Luke in mid-thrust.
